Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!!! May this (y)ear of the Rabbit be a great one for you 🙂

The above animation is very very first attempt at doing a little stop animation clip. I used a Playmobil toy my friend Desi gave me for Christmas, as well as, a handful of dry pasta alphabets I had in my kitchen *grin*

Feel free to comment what you think, but meanwhile, I have an important announcement for magicians & magic enthusiasts…

Trust me, this is something you’d surely kick yourself if you missed because we have the latest magic goodies going at a steal. We have the newest magic effects + instructional DVDs on everything – street magic, mentalism, stage magic, illusions, card magic, close up, you name it!

As usual, first come, first serve. So do visit Magic Boutique soonest to reserve your loot! This is our way of spread the Lunar New Year cheer 😉 Thus far all our mega sales have been huge successes because they are genuine. Great products at unmatchable prices. We hope to continue the tradition.

PS: While I prepare for my upcoming travel adventure, I’m going to keep all things separate blog-wise, and so for the time being…

For all magic related stuff & what J C & I have been up to, please see Backstage Business. My on-stage partner has brilliant updates and pictures, and blogs regularly. Join our J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning Facebook fan page if you haven’t already… There you’ll get the latest news and updates 🙂

Magic reviews still continue at www.sexymagicreviews.wordpress.com – check it out if you haven’t already, we’ve had many magicians coming to us sharing that they found the written reviews very helpful & insightful *grin*

Anyway… as for my upcoming travel adventure book project with the BFF that will be published in Fall 2012 by Marshall Cavendish International, do bookmark Adventures of 2 Girls 🙂

The 2 of us girls are currently busy with preparations that will see us spending the first 3 months in a backpacking road-trip in Canada/USA, followed by a Summer in Paris where I will be studying the fine art of French patisserie in Le Cordon Bleu. The last 3 months before we come back to Singapore, is going to be a surprise…

Link up with Pam & yours truly on our Adventures of 2 Girls on Facebook too! We’re currently seeking sponsors, so if you’d like to be an angel, please give a shout!!!

PPS: Just in case you’re wondering if this is the end of Magic Babe, it is not. Sorry to disappoint 😉 Magic Boutique still continues under the very capable hands of Kinetic Gal aka Adeline Ng and team.

And you’ll be seeing a lot of me during my “absence”… More on that later. J C & I and the Concept:Magic team have been busy working on some projects that we can’t talk about… just yet 😉 Ta for now, more later!

Your $20 can help feed a hungry starving child

A couple of young students are undertaking this charity event to help the less fortunate, which I consider simply brilliant so I really want to lend a hand in supporting their Project Goodbye Gutom: EAT, LIVE, LOVE, RUN!

While I am not affiliated with them, I can vouch that this is a completely legit charity project and you can find out more about it here on their official website, which is very informative 🙂

I believe in paying it forward and helping where you can… so I truly think it brilliant that this group is working hard in educating the public about the issues of poverty, while trying to garner funding to be able to buy plots of land for these less fortunate people so they can farm their own food and hence, be completely self-sustainable!

They are only asking for S$20 from everyone, so do try your best to help out if you can because a little help goes a long way 🙂

The team of passionate student volunteers have also gotten many passionate sponsors and have awesome goodiebags and prizes, so that should be a perk. The charity run happens next month, and isn’t that a perfect opportunity to exercise to keep fit, as well as, a family/ friends bonding time? I think it is!

The group aims to hit S$25,000 to be able to buy 5 plots of land to help these impoverished families out, so I’ve signed my entire family up for this youth-led initiative. I hope you can help spread the word for this charity too and earn some positive karma points *grin*

After all, why wouldn’t you want to help feed a hungry child?

The only constant thing in life is change…

Hey folks!

Sorry for the lapse in blogging. I packed away my iPad for my overseas trip but it unfortunately wasn’t as trusty as I thought it’d be… it’s crap for wordpress blogging, as well as, use with google apps/ docs/ mail.

A big bummer indeed, so I’m back here in Singapore poking on my laptop. We recently are having some annoying bugs with our office server too, so that’s no fun.

BUT! I’m not sweating the small stuff because really, I’ve got at least a dozen truly wonderful and EXCITING things to update you guys about. For instance:

1. Our new 2011 promo video is up – congrats to the lucky winners of our latest J C Sum & ‘Magic Babe’ Ning Facebook contests!

2. Our brand new 2-DVD set “URBAN UNDERGROUND” has sold over 50 DVDs in just its opening week, through magicboutique.sg! Check out the trailers below for a “preview” and click on the link above for a review!

3. Our recent LIVE IN PENANG magic event was a stellar success. The organisers were happy because it was the biggest turnout ever, with magicians coming from all over to attend our event.

I made many new friends in magic and more importantly, was able to pass on nuggets of wisdom I’d acquired through the years we have been successful in showbiz 🙂

4. J C & I were featured in a 2-page exclusive article in 8DAYS magazine last week! Mucho kudos to the fab people who excitedly informed us about it since we weren’t in Singapore then…

5. In a gutsy move unforeseen by most, I finally cut my hair after YEARS of keeping my tresses long… So I’m now sporting a different sassy funky look that thankfully most people find CHIC 😉

It takes some getting used to, but I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the cut prior so I decided to be bold and simply go shorter. My sister now teases me that I look like Neil Gaiman’s endless character, Death.

Haha! Well, do you find any coincidental similarities?

6. J C & I received the Special Recognition Award for Contributions to the Arts & Media Community from my dear Alma Mater… the School of Film & Media Studies, Ngee Ann Polytechnic!

Thank you for the recognition and prestigious award, you guys! We certainly wish to keep doing Singapore proud!!! 2010 was an awesome year for us but the best is yet to come 😉

That’s us with our friends, fellow personalities – 98.7’s Muttons (Justin & Vernon), musicians Jack & Rai and comedienne Irene Ang! The event was held at SCAPE and I certainly had fun. I’m so proud of the great job the Film & Media Studies students did (aka my juniors… haha) because the event was a smooth groovy success!

Oh yes! My lil sister performed with her percussion band Baracuda Batucada on stage to close the event, so that was really cool… the 2 of us sisters on the same stage! Read more here.

7. Hearty congrats to my dear photography teacher Liew Tong Leng for winning 1st place in Mediacorp Channel 5’s The Big Shot!

I do believe the highly talented man is one of Singapore’s very best… despite winning so many photography awards through the years, he’s still very passionate and kind.

There’s absolutely no airs about him at all and Liew is ever so gracious about sharing what he knows about the art of photography! The BFF & I really enjoyed ourselves during our sessions with this brilliant shuttterbug 🙂

Truly, his work of arts are amazing. Liew certainly has the eye 🙂 I really love the pictures above. He has a lot more gems worth relishing, check out his brand new website in the link above!

8. My KAPAP heroes are coming to town… Learn from the Grand Masters of real “street fighting” themselves – Major Avi Nardia & Colonel Chiam Peer 🙂 Contact my good friends Master Teo Yew Chye & KAPAP lady instructor Qin Yun Quan for more info 🙂

These martial artistes are supremely passionate about this face to face combat martial art, and they now also have a school teaching Gracie style jujitsu! They also have instructors coaching regular folks in self-defence, not just for ladies but for the elderly and kids too so do check out their website.

If my schedule allowed it, I’d certainly be enrolled in this. Their recent KAPAP Level 1 instructor-ship training happened late last year but unfortunately, it was right smack in the middle of my busiest time of the year, so I wasn’t able  to take up the invitation.

Still I personally whole-heartedly believe in the system, so really, do check it out!

9. The BFF & I have set up a shared blog site – called Adventures of 2 Girls! 🙂 For now it’s a simple site which I set up myself, and Pam has already posted several blog entries. This will chronicle our 9-month long adventures for……………………..

10. …………………Our book project to be published by Marshall Cavendish in 2012! The renown international book publisher will be publishing our travel stories and our book will be available at all good bookstores. And what’s it about?

Why, can’t you guess? 😉

11. …The 2 of us girls will be backpacking from March till November this year! I’m really excited about it because we will be traveling across the globe, just the two of us… the magician and the DJ!

Our blog aside, you can also join our Adventures of 2 Girls Facebook page to keep abreast of things *grin* Stay tuned for more but first, a celebratory teaser…

12. Okay this may come as a stunner to most of you so brace yourselves… I’ve been officially accepted into the highly prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school for their Patisserie course!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll be in Paris the whole of summer and I’m tremendously excited about it. This will be my very first time in France and I’ve already gotten my apartment all sorted out for the entire Summer I’d be there. My French lessons will now come in handy. Oui, chef?

Anyway… as you know, when inspiration strikes I do create my own gourmet-style marshmallows and cookies. BUT to learn the art of French patisserie from the award-winning Michelin-star chefs themselves… this is simply exciting for me and very much something on my bucketlist.

Just like the whole backpacking adventure from March till November with the BFF who is my partner in crime. Aheheheheh. If you recall my past blog posts about our travels together (Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, etc.), you’d remember we always have a knack of getting ourselves into “interesting” situations.

So yes, this isn’t an early Aprils Fools gag. I’m really taking a 9-month break to travel. Will I still be doing magic? Absolutely! Stay tuned to our vlogs and blogs, tweets and Facebook updates as the BFF & I chronicle our days in different countries 😉

Ta for now, more later!

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.” – TS Elliot

Awesome fireworks picture taken by my award-winning photography teacher, Liew Tong Leng, at Marina Bay Sands (Singapore) at the New Year's Countdown

Hey y’all… it’s 2.1.2011! How’s the second day of the New Year going so far? 🙂

Time is my most precious commodity and I was glad I could spend it with my family. Mom cooked her AWESOME chicken curry, which I absolutely LOVE. Her secret ingredient is lemongrass, and that really adds to the dish, making it more aromatic and delicious!

It was a simple dinner of baked baguettes with Mom’s succulent chicken curry but seriously, for me… There’s nothing more awesome then having hot spicy comfort food when it’s raining outside, sharing a hearty meal with people you love.

It was a beautiful home-cooked meal made with love 🙂 I love my folks! My folks made springrolls too, but I didn’t take them because I was busy stuffing my face with the yummy curry and crispy baguettes!

Dessert was a sinful little favorite of mine… Baked Alaska aka glace au four! The French also call it omelette à la norvégienne. But whatever the name is, I first fell in love with this brilliant flambéed creation many years ago when I was a poor struggling film student.

I’d save up for weeks just to splurge on this decadent dessert made of merange, alcohol, ice-cream and sponge cake because it was an excellent perk me up. I just loved how it was a cold ice-cream cake inside and with a wickedly crispy exterior from being inside a really hot oven.

It’s really one of my personal favorites because it’s got everything wonderful going in it. It’s so good that it even has its own special day. FYI, Feb 1st is Baked Alaska Day. No kidding!

All was fine, but a only crazy thing happened in the wee hours of the morning. A big 6-storey tall tree from across my apartment suddenly came crashing down, taking down a lamp post and blocking the 2-lane road along with it.

It seemed like the tall tree got hit by lightning as the stump was still rooted to the ground. The loud CRACK could be heard and it pretty much freaked me out because it was so unexpected. The top of it hit the swimming pool and wall but it was a really good thing that no one got hurt!

I guess this may be a sign that 2011 may be an exciting one full of unexpected adventures. Heh heh. Ta for now, more later!

Happy 2011: May this New Year be your best yet!

Hey stranger…

It’s now officially 2011, a brand new year, full of exciting possibilities and brilliant opportunities. You probably have made an important list of personal resolutions (or like me, a mental checklist).

Now, as crazy as some of the things on your private list may seem, I am here supporting you in spirit and loudly cheering and rooting for you to accomplish all of them!

A new year should spur new growth in whatever parts of your life you wish to focus positivity on. So dare to be brave to meet all challenges! 😉

A wise friend recently reminded me how important it is to set personal goals, so you can reach your objectives and KPIs. It’s something I always believe in business-wise… yet somehow I haven’t really been active about it on the personal front. Somehow, it just didn’t occur to this girl.

So it’d be best to re-evaluate how you’ll be planning the next 365 days, so all can be fully maximized. Don’t just go with the flow and be caught up and swept away by things. Get into the driver’s seat, buckle up and steer your very own path.

I truly wish you a FANTASTIC 2011… Happy New Year y’all!

PS: Folks who have seen our first trailer for Urban Underground have asked for more sneak-peeks since the DVD is only ships 10 Jan 2011. So to make y’all happy, just up a few hours ago, J C uploaded another trailer… Check it out!

Thank you so much for the incredible support – so many magicians here and overseas have already made pre-orders for this 2-DVD set which is about 2 hours long.

Yes, you betcha, it’s chockful of magic gems… click on the Magic Boutique link above for details. The special discount won’t last long (because sadly all good things come to an end), so reserving your copy now will be a very good idea 😉

Righty, this girl needs some beauty sleep now so it’s off to bed and I’m looking forward to having a meal with my family later. Have a fantastic 1st of January, everyone!

Last day of 2010…

Heya folks.

It’s the last few hours of the year before 2011 greets us after the stroke of midnight. Has it been an awesome year for you? Someone wise once told me it’s not the number of years that count but really, the life you had in those years given. Food for thought, eh.

Anyway. J C made a great blog post here about all the amazing projects we’ve done for 2010. Everything is in chronological order, with pictures and videos and details. Do check it out 🙂

Personally, 2010 has been a truly brilliant year and I’ve learnt so much. I got to make new friends who are truly precious gems, experience new places and different things, and also served to inspire people and help them blossom and be better, somehow in my own quirky way.

That is actually the most important to me, because it gives purpose to my existence here on Earth, so I’m really very thankful to be able to give back this way.

The year for me has been a pretty crazy roller-coaster ride of sorts, but I’ve always been a firm believer or “everything happens for a reason” but I’ve been very blessed and will continue to believe in the greater good and also in paying it forward, whenever I can.

I think 2011 is going to teach me new things. To be more brave and courageous. To be more open to crazy unknown challenges. To simply live life and love all the adventures (the good and the bad!) that will come.

This unpredictable magician who believes in living life to the fullest has something massively insane up her sleeve and will reveal it shortly, in due time 😉 It’s going to be something that will shock some.

The very first clue about this will have to be something from Eleanor “Do one thing every day that scares you” Roosevelt. She wisely shared:

“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.”

Okay so maybe that may be a bit vague… More hints and clues to follow, but meanwhile, do enjoy the very last day of 2010 and celebrate it with the ones who matter.

Wishing you a fantastic year ahead where 2011 will be the most awesome yet,
